Mechanic Mao

This gentleman administers the curbside service center near our hotel. He was nice enough to pose for a photo and proudly displayed his Chairman Mao pin. I expect the Olympics tourist will love him. He refused my offer of a tip for the photo and barked some orders at a mechanic before I left.

Love the China travelogue you’ve been posting. I wouldn’t mind a visit to Beijing, although I understand the air pollution is pretty bad
I’d recommend it — a great trip with much more to post about, but yes the pollution is that bad and it’s endemic across Asia. What you might mistake at first for “morning fog” is smog that blankets the city and compounded by dust from all the constuction and desert.
As Bryan posted, Beijing smells like fuel, all sorts of fuel and it permeates your clothes.
