Cycling in Croatia

In Zagreb, Croatia, bikes are in fashion and seen everywhere in the city.
Out of the city and towards the coast, on dirt roads near Istria, in the region where James Joyce exiled himself, cyclists are touring.

Spent 2 weeks in Croatia last fall, and while I didn’t do any long touring, I did rent a bike a few days and cruise up and down a little on the Dalmatian coast.
Next big idea is to ride from Dubrovnik to either Montenegro or north to Split.
The islands are amazing, and a helluva lot less crowded than Italy/France at the same time of year.
That’s what I’ve heard and then saw the NYTimes article.
Where can you rent roadbikes in Croatia? What would one cost for a week ?
