FLAPS!

Oct 06, 2007  ·  07:39 PM  ·  permalink

Flat Just a reminder to the masses out there. Riding in the rain is great. I did 3 hours today, got soaked mostly through, but still had a great ride. The only issue? - getting caught riding behind the guy with fenders…but no flap! The edge of his raceblade directed a constant flow of wet grit right into my teeth.

Riding in a group this winter? Get a buddy flap!

Nuff said. They even have flaps with longer coverage, just for race blades. I’ve got 3 sets already.

.. how do I hate riders without fenders and flaps, let me count the ways!! good Lord you can make your own from plastic containers or old belts for that matter, I once did a ride with a guy that used folded over duct tape for flaps…

those small bottles from the concentrated ALL detergent make really nice road flaps. Cut ‘em in half and it’s like they were designed to wrap around fenders.

Of course, all your SF friends in white booties will make fun of you for the “found object,” but it’s not like they ride in the rain anyway.

I’ve been thinking about making some opposite the Rivendell line — leather flaps with tweed trim.

I use sump pump blue plastic tubing from Home Depot. Worse than no flap is an inadequate “courtesy” flap that isn’t long enough for coverage or weigh enough and flips around in the wind.

Stair tread makes the best flaps ever. Home Depot will sell you enough for 2-3 bikes for just a few bucks. It nice and heavy and thick enough to be solid, but also flexy enough to curve around the tire a bit.

B, I think these would have a higher speed rating than the blue ones.
