New York Times on Portland Oregon: Friendly to bikes and business

There is interesting article in the New York Times today, all about Portland. The article covers some of the well known cycle-friendliness of the city itself, but really centers in more on the 125 cycle related business the city sustains.

Hard not to also pitch the Twin Cities, home to Quality Bike/Winwood/Salsa/Surly/Civia/Problem Solvers/Dimension, Park Tool, and HED, among others.

And with the Portland renaissance, there’s the Valley in the Seattle/Kent area with Seattle Bike Supply, Raleigh, and REI.

I think one mistake these “Seattle” companies made was sticking themselves in Kent. Just think the positive impact Raleigh, Seattle Bike, REI, etc could have had on habits, policies, etc, if they located their businesses in the city where people could them (and see their bike-riding workers).
