We've been pinched!

Mar 11, 2008  ·  07:00 AM  ·  permalink

Pinchie counted up all the carbon I used getting to SXSW for the BBQ — lots of it — so noted and flattered that someone would count carbon for me. I don’t know how much carbon we offset by advocating cycling so heavily at SXSW with the organizers, riding around Austin with the locals, or offering baked potatoes for the vegetarians, but I think a large amount. This guy was one confirmed bike rental, on a Lime even.

Maybe Bike Snob NYC will hit us next for our hugga jerseys or for thinking we know something about bike culture. Try as we might though, we’ve never made it onto the Bummer Life, but it’s all good with more Hugga events coming, including one in Shanghai.

Heh heh. Well, you know snarkiness is the highest form of flattery, right Byron?

BikeSnob and Stevil will be around shortly, I’m sure. They’re always trying to bridge up to us.

I’m flying back out from SXSW in about 45 minutes or so (thanks for the food and the swag, but I think you were one off on that last Crumpler - I was 645602). I don’t know how the carbon weighs out out, but I know how well it compares with the cost of business to get me back tomorrow, rather than lose three or four days if I were to drive there.

Weeks ago, I started out trying to rent a bike, but then I did one better by fixing my host’s bike and riding that around town instead. In yesterday’s rain, I took a bus, and when things cleared up around 6, I rode back down to the apartment, got on the bike, and went for a refreshing swim in Barton Springs pool.

I also rented a bike this SXSW thanks to your earlier post. It was great for getting me from south Congress to downtown and back every day (and sometimes twice.) Thanks for the tip and you saved some carbon there too. Lots better than renting a car and just as fast.
