Your 29er Is Now Hopelessly Inadequate

I was surfin’ around and I found this image from Blonde Fabrications. A 36-inch-wheeled mtb. Appropriately named the Amazon Blonde 36er, the builder apparently races it too. I’m sure it handles like a tank, but I love it when people are willing to push a concept (in this case, 29er wheels vs the standard 26 mtb wheels) to the extreme.
When you look at this picture, keep in mind that the my whole bike could pass thru the rim if it were not for the spokes.
All Tall bikes must redesign for these wheels and put their heads that much higher in the air. Check the Coker from last year.
my shop carried those Coker bikes some years ago. those bikes were most definitely NOT performance machines, but seeing the Amazon Blonde immediately reminded me of the Coker Monster bikes.

why handle like a tank? because I can definitely feel the difference between a 29er and 26” mtb…i’ll make a reasonable extrapolation that the 36er isn’t so nimble. besides, i’ve worked on those Cokers. i’m sure that the racing prototypes are lighter than a Coker, but those wheels must weigh a fair bit.
you don’t go to big wheels for maneuverability. you go for the traction and lower rolling resistance. no one on that link said that the bikes were nimble.
