Car-Free Zones in NYC

A reader tipped us to NYC’s plan to create car-free zones — yippee — and I’ve always thought that Seattle will get serious about making the city more livable when it bans cars from Pikes Place Market. I mean really, do cars need to try and park there?

Never happen, Byron - Seattle as an entity really does not want to put any effort into being liveable or bike freindly. It is much less expensive and much less controversial to simply pay lip service the the concept of being liveable and bike freindly. Mayor Nickels is a world class expert at this.
Thank you for saying that. It is seriously asinine to allow the public to drive through there. Vendors fine, but why the hell do you allow cars to drive through such a high density of pedestrians. It would be so much more pleasant to be down there if you could walk in the street without fear of being run over by the endless line of cars being driven by people who are inevitably pissed off from having to sit and creep along through the sea of pedestrians.
It should be a demonstration are of a healthy city, maybe even with a big green lane.
