How do you travel with a tandem?

Aug 03, 2008  ·  11:48 PM  ·  permalink

I don’t have a tandem; I’ve never thought about how to transport one on your car. I spotted this Rube Goldberg-esque contraption, and it inspired the question… How do you take your tandem if it isn’t taking you?

Why with S&S couplings. I’ve also seen Bike Friday tandems.

Yeah, why would you even bother with that mess if you have couplings (which the photo example does have)? I have a few ideas, but I’ll keep them to myself.

Sportworks bike racks in Woodinville made the best tandem rack on the planet, called the U2. You could load a tandem in seconds with just one person.

After Thule bought the consumer racks division of Sportworks, they discountinued the rack, which was a very stupid thing to do. Thule is not a company of innovation, rather they just buy other people’s ideas with their big pockets.
