Shepard Fairy Bike!

Check the paint job on Lance's bike -- that's Shepard Fairey of Obey Giant and Obama posters fame. Damn. We posted earlier on Lance working with Fairy on a mural, but didn't know a bike was commissioned.

Another great example of how bikes are part of pop culture and crossing over into modern art. Now to see art merged with transportation and cargo bikes.

Technically it’s not a paint job. The bike is painted solid yellow and the black portions are hand applied decals. Definitely the work of someone with very steady hands!!

Right. Like all Trek bikes, that’s a base with decals and clear coat. The bike itself is like a strange icon-cheetah. Of note for Bike Hugger is the bikes, art, and design. I also don’t think the public has made the connection between those Andre the Giant posters they see and Obama or Shep or Lance.

The detailing on that bike is incredible. Wow.

And I’m sure this bike will hang from the ceiling in Mellow Johnny’s after the race and cool.

Nope, not destined for Mellow Johnny’s. The Shepard bike, along with a time trial bike decorated be famed painter Kenny Scharf and a few others, will be part of an exhibit in Paris in July and will then be auctioned off by the LAF in New York in October.
