MPLS Minx

user-pic

minx_mpls.jpg

As she said,

Do you have any idea at all, you guys, how mother ucking hard it is to straighten seamed stockings by yourself?” Yes, I ride in this. I have before, I will again, many times. The heels are five inches and make my toes lose feeling. The stockings are inexpensive and replaceable.

We missed Ms Minx when we were in MPLS, but are sure it’s a spectacle when she rides.

We rode MPLS during the Globe Bikes Launch. The Mill Museum, One on One Bicycle Studio, around town, and more.

Ms. Erin Nicole is riding around MPLS. We may have passed her on the paths and streets. MPSL has 2-way bike lanes in the middle of the street. Not sure how well those work. Read more at I Bike MPLS.

ARTCRANK Denver: April 11, 2009

user-pic

On Saturday night I went to ARTCRANK Denver--"a poster party for bike people"--and ended up having a great time.

ARTCRANK Denver: Fueled by Beer

For starters, they chose a great block on Colfax to throw their party and got the participation of lots of Denverites, making it a truly local party. It helps that I'm fond of that part of Colfax--I owned a home there up until recently--but the Shoppe (home of some of Denver finest cupcakes) and the Fabric Lab (which trades in some fine bike-themed apparel) were also great choices for partners helping to transform that block of Colfax into a cycling spectacle.

A Poster Party for Bike People

Damn....I love prints, I love bikes, and I love Minneapolis. So how am I only just hearing about this: ARTCRANK: A Poster Party for Bike People?

Good for me, ARTCRANK is opening a show in Denver this weekend, replete with lots of old interactive buddies. Lucky for me, with my broken hand, I won't be missing any snow.

I spent the holidays in Minneapolis and had a chance to visit my favorite Coffee Bar, Bike Shop, Rotating Art Exhibit, and Bike Boneyard. All of this, and the Bianchi Buck can be found at One on One Bicycle Studio in downtown Minneapolis. Check out more photos from One on One after the jump.

Office Monster at Hed Cycling

user-pic

While visiting our friends at HED Cycling, we stumbled onto the office glue monster. Just before getting decals, a bead of excess glue is stripped off of each wheel. This cast off material has grown over time. One day, much like frosty the snowman, some decal eyes brought the office glue monster to life. Now he stands sentinel near the dock door. Basically, every HED wheel shipped first passes under the attentive gaze of the glue monster.

Bike Hugger visits Hed Cycling HQ

user-pic

Bike Hugger recently had the opportunity to visit the HQ of Hed Cycling in Shoreview Minnesota. This custom full disc wheel was made by Hed employees for fun. Several of these have started to show up at the office and now they’re considering a “Disc of the Week” program to auction off the one of a kind creations to a lucky sole. Just imagine the power of the force created rolling this dope Star Wars motif at the Velodrome.

Don’t know much about Hed Cycling? Steve Hed has been in the business for over 20 years, and his wheels have been ridden everywhere from the Tour de France, to the Hawaii Ironman. Each wheel is still handmade and assembled just outside the twin cities of Minneapolis / St. Paul. While poking around the shop, Andy kindly pointed out the custom machinery, technology, and people behind Hed Cycling. I’ll be posting a few of the cool things we stumbled across over the next week. If you want to take a virtual tour of the shop, you can see more after the jump.

Bike Hugger at Minneapolis Freeride

user-pic

On a recent trip to the twin cities I dropped in with 200+ other riders on the Freeride. The beautiful weather, a stunning array of longtails, bike polo, bike cafes, and of course lots of Pabst made this a social ride I won’t soon forget. If there was any doubt, I’m now certain that Minneapolis’s thriving bike community, and cycling infrastructure make this a top notch two wheeled town. Now, if we could just figure out this winter thing… See more from Freeride after the jump.

Sasquatch Bike

user-pic

While the physics of this “bike” might be understood if photographed during the day… I’d like to think this peddle powered enigma, (much like Sasquatch), only appears at night. It wanders the streets of Minneapolis, and as seen here, is startled by the bright flash of a camera.
