Curious Creatures Vulvarine Shorts were worn this season by Cicely Newman, a Methow Cycling Team athlete. I’ve been wearing CC ever since they sent me samples last year.
I asked Cicely what she thought of the shorts and this is what she told me.
After using these shorts on a number of rides, I have few notes both on improvement and quality. As a rider, both long distance and short range, mountain biking and road, I find the Vulvarines to be mostly satisfactory in terms of function and comfort. They move very well against the leg, giving good range without causing abrasion on the legs. These shorts are also equipped with a thick, comfortable pad, made of a soft fabric. My only complaint is that the seam used to keep the padding on the groin and rear area reveals some of the foam padding around the edge seam. On longer rides, this caused chafing, which over time became a problem. Overall the edge is an uncomfortable experience no matter the ride length. I’m sure this varies from person to person, but from a person who rides a lot, groin injuries are better avoided.
As far as style and fitting go, I have not a single problem. The cut of these shorts is both confidence inducing and sleek. The legs don’t have a seam, creating a smooth transition from shorts to leg, a nice feature for windy days. The legs also include a tacky area around the bottom of the fabric, which helps to keep the short legs in the same place throughout the ride. In addition, the waist band is high rising and slightly compressing, as well as hugging the upper thigh and hip area, both adding an aspect of wind and equipment fluidity in terms of movement.
In conclusion, the Curious Creatures Vulvarine Shorts shorts provide both comfort, style, and overall good quality. My only improvement suggestion would be making the seam on the chamois less prominent. Aside from that, these shorts are an awesome choice, and are a great option for all types of riders.
Well said Cicely!

Find Vulvarine on CC’s website. What feels good about their brand is they made the shorts primarily with recycled polyester, adding a bit of spandex for extra support. With minimal trims, elastics, and seams, there are fewer components to wear out or break, ensuring the chamois outlasts the rest. And, reasonably price at $115.
Take a look at the reviews online and CC customers love these shorts. I hope they make a mens version with bib straps.
