Add shots fired to my list of Vegas experiences. I’m stopped at a trailhead on the ride back from Bootleg Canyon. A car pulled up to a dead end there and the driver or passenger emptied a clip into the desert.
I ducked and hid.
The car peeled out of there and was gone.
The six shots punctuated my last trip to Vegas for a bike show. Tonight would’ve been the 13th annual Mobile Social Interbike, but nothing is forever and it’s time to move on.
Here’s a video from the 12th one last year.
As I shared on Medium (paywall for members), we’re leaving Las Vegas. My friend Steve Gluckman said it best
I dug the MoSo because it brought together bike lovers from all segments of the industry to do what we do best; have fun riding bikes (all kinds welcome) share the stoke, drink some free beer (it is the bike industry after all) all under the glitzy neon lights of the strip- so surreal, fake yes, but super fun in that once-a-year kind of way!
Thanks for riding with me all those years in Vegas. Those were some good times. I think the Mobile Socials made a difference. As the saying goes in tech they, “Put a dent in the universe.”
And, after shaking off those gunshots, and continuing my ride, I stopped to check the map and looked up to see this sign.
Thanks, universe.
I needed that.
