New Trek Road Shoes

New Trek road shoes were launched today. All three were designed with input from pros and feature METNET, an exclusive technology for comfort and performance. I’ll add before we get into the launch that in the recent past road shoes were not comfortable. It took weeks to break a new pair in and they were supposed to hurt.

As a matter of fact. not anymore.

Designers have learned that if you’re comfortable you go faster and longer. That applies to bike fit and all the touch points; including, your feet. I’m happy Trek and Bontrager are leading product design and introducing new tech.

So are my feet.

METNET allows the shoe to stretch and compress around the foot. The difference between the 3 pairs are the amount of METNET, insoles, and style.

RSL Knit

A Shoe for Your Style and Budget

RSL Knit is the most future forward of the trio. The upper features support straps, two BOA dials, and a carbon sole. The MSRP is $499. Here are the details.

  • Engineered performance knit provides a comfortable, sock-like fit and excellent breathability
  • METNET relief zones stretch and conform to the foot to relieve common foot discomfort
  • Updated Trek Pro Last provides a wider performance fit to better match the average foot
  • Dual Li2 BOA dials provide low-profile, on-the-fly micro-adjustability for a precision fit
  • 100% OCLV Carbon plate provides excellent power transfer for optimal pedaling efficiency
  • Internal heel cup and no-slip heel lining prevent slippage and improve efficiency
  • Insoles are made with Rise by BLOOM, a bio-based EVA foam replacement
  • Compatible with 3-bolt cleats

I’m going to adapt the RSL Knit to a two bolt pattern and try it on gravel routes in the Methow Valley. I’m also interested in the bio-based EVA foam Trek is using for the insole.
