Tried to take some time off this week at Hugga HQ, but the news kept happening, as I tweeted:
Weird day. Tour of CO announced & a politician says bikeshare is a plot. Levi is implicated in a book & Tour of UT announces he’s riding.
Lance Investigation
According to the media, Lance has relocated to Aspen and brought a stage race with him; meanwhile the PR message from his attorney is that dopers are liars and get sweetheart deals. Prosecutor responds with, “we’ve got more than Landis.”
Levi Implicated
Same day that Levi is implicated in a new book (Guaranteed Positive) from a former Directeur Sportif of Gerstoleiner, the Tour of Utah announces he’s riding. Levi has had no formal response, but was spotted changing his RoadID tag from: “‘whatever, man’ to ‘lean ‘n’ clean’”
Social Media Saves Cyclist
ABC World News reports on a cyclist who got lost and injured during a triathlon and tweeted for help. We wondered why she had her phone with her during a race? Glad you got saved, but disconnect sometimes or leave the location services check in until after the bike leg.
Bike Share
While the bike share proponents haven’t had enough time yet to declare their programs a success, they’ve been getting lots of ink lately, including a politcian claiming B-cycle is a UN plot to destroy America. That lit up twitter for a while and our response was: “If Denver’s Bike Share is a UN plan to destroy America, it’s pretty good. Put people on heavy-ass, underperforming bikes and make them pay for it. Then build lots of hills.”
Cargo
Cargo bikes are a persistent topic on blogs from gadget to tech to bike. Unfortunately, few cargo bikes are designed well enough or work on terrain other than flat – ask a trusted shop mechanic about them sometime. We’d like to see more people using bikes for errands too and it’s on the bike industry to make better bikes.
See Mark V’s take on them from 2008:

Wheeldom
Shcott’s Vocab, a NYT blog about modern words and phrases posted on Wheeldom,
The domain or “world” of wheeled vehicles, esp. bicycles or users of them.
Used in a sentence by the Cycle Tour Club Monthly in 1887:
“A prominent interest in matters pertaining to wheeldom.”
That’s a good word. Wheeldom is what happens when you’re getting 1/2 wheeled all day on a charity ride or Wheel Dom is a bicycle-riding dominatrix service.
