As the full moon hung over the Hudson River in the clear morning sky, Rapha today opened the Rapha Cycle Club, a permanent location at 64 Gansevort Street in the Meat Packing District. Spacious and modestly decked out, the shop is full of the company’s signature understated clothing and cycling products, as well as a full cafe. (Disclaimer/bragging, my shop, Gypsy Donut and Espresso Bar will be providing our handmade donuts on the weekends.) In addition to the world’s best donuts, the cafe will also feature locally make artisan pastries, sandwiches and beer.
While Rapha has outposts in San Francisco and London, New York City has only previously hosted a temporary pop-up space so the new permanent location will provide an anchor for the company to showcase its clothing and gear and to host events and lead bike rides. (Regularly shop rides will depart around 8:30-9:00am weekends.)
The build-out, which transformed a former photographic studio space into a retail show room and cafe, features racks of Rapha gear a smattering of memorabilia including vintage jerseys and posters. The rear wall is actually a theater, with a projector displaying Rapha cycling videos and race feeds live from European TV.
The new shop will open at 7:00 a.m. daily and will be open until 8:00 p.m. weekdays AND 6 p.m. weekends.
