About an hour and a 1/2 hour outside of Seattle is the old coal mining town of Cle Elum. Now, in the heart of the Cascades, Cle Elum is where we’re finding new places to explore and snowshoe with the gear MSR sent us last year. In the Seattle area, snowshoeing is a thing with large crowds, but we didn’t see anyone else this time in the Swauk Valley.
I also imagined fat biking these roads. We got up into the hills and powder where a bike couldn’t go.
The thing about snowshoeing for cyclists is you’ve got the muscle memory and fitness…the sport is all legs and it’s a great workout. Also, the latest iteration of snowshoes pretty much just strap onto a pair of hiking boots and you’re good to go.
And, go we did….
I’m still editing photos from our last adventure—Maui and a Rails to Trails ride—before we’re off on another this week. That story will appear in the next issue of our magazine.
