Specialized + Fjallraven Drop 3 happened earlier today. The third installment of the Wes Anderson-inspired gear includes a sleep poncho, vest, and a very interesting looking backpack/hip pack. Plus a rain poncho, handlebar bags, tees, and more.
I asked for the expandable hip pack to carry camera gear, water, and some snacks for rides in the Methow Valley while the wildflowers bloom. The pack offers hybrid functionality for those who prefer a compact hip pack while riding, but could also use the extra space of a backpack without having to bring both. The hip pack expands from 4.5L to 11.5. It ships in ochre, black, or green. I could pack a Sony ZV-E1 in the hip pack and expand it to bring a zoom.
So why are these two brands working together? Here’s what they said about the collaboration last year when the first drop happened.
Fjällräven and Specialized come together as two heritage brands both focused on exploring the great outdoors. The collaboration is an exchange of both ideas and culture, as well as an exchange of innovation and expertise. The collaboration pairs Fjällräven’s dedication to time-less design and functionality with Specialized’s high-performance approach to pedaling the planet forward. Combined, the collaboration delivers new technical apparel and equipment that empowers people to explore The Great Nearby.
That sounds great. And, nearby. It also reflects a lot of who we’re see out riding rails to trails. Just enjoying themselves. For this drop, Specialized + Fjallraven are still focused on The Great Nearby and riding where the air is fresh and the mind clear. I’ll add, this collection is about Fjallraven’s fabric. No one does waxed canvas better.
