Velocio Apparel in Tuscon. As shared on Instagram during my ride at Owls Head in Marana, Tucson, the temperatures hovered around 60 degrees, and Velocio’s sport wool blends were perfect.
Here’s what I’ brought with me to Arizona from Velocio.
- LUXE Bib Short (performance bibs designed for distance riding and comfort)
- CONCEPT Merino Jersey (75% merino wool for good thermoregulation, plus it doesn’t stink)
- Signature Jersey (refined and versatile)
- Ultralight SL Baselayer (if you like wearing a baselayer)
- Ultralight Jacket or Ultralight Vest (for chillier mornings or long descents)
Another fav is the Merino Mesh SL Baselayer which offers a similar cut, and is made with a 51% Merino Wool / 49% Polyester blend.
Owl Head is quite the ride and I’m making it an annual occurrence, along with riding my birthday miles. I found it on Dirty Freehub and dowloaded the map to my Hammerhead Karoo. Conditions were great, except for the last few miles that were very washboarded. I could not find a line so I just slowed down. Dirty Freehub also has rides in Patagonia, Montezuma, and more.
The BMC URS handled most of the conditions. Washboarding is what it is.
